Taurus 380 Acp - The long overdue review of the Taurus Spectrum is something I've wanted to do since the gun was announced. Unfortunately, this weapon was not delivered in the short term - never mind a longer trial period.
Taurus attempted to break the mold of the .380 pocket pistol industry. So they designed the gun with a smooth look and now offer it in a variety of colors. Additionally, the Spectrum was hailed by many Taurus representatives as part of a new era of quality and reliability for the company.

I was hoping that the Taurus representatives were honest and wanted to give the gun a good shake. If proven, it would be a welcome addition to the growing class of self-defense rifles.

Unfortunately, my gun was not reliable - even after returning to the factory for rework. As I read a number of Taurus friendly sites, I see many others who have also had spectrum issues.
It's really bad. The overall shape and lines of the gun suggest it may be better than many .380 ACP pocket guns on the market. Along with the assurance that the gun represents a new era of improved quality for Taurus, I was intrigued by the possibility of a handgun.
I will detail my issues with the pistol in the shooting review. To be fair, there are a few things I really like about this gun. I cover them too.
If further maintenance and investigation is carried out, this page will be updated to reflect the current information. Your experiences with this gun are welcome in the comments section below.

With the tagline "Designing the future for everyday carry," Taurus positions the Spectrum as a compact self-defense pistol. For this use, personal protection, we will evaluate the Spectrum.
The Spectrum is chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge and standard magazines hold six rounds. The guns have polymer frames with a firing mechanism. Unlike some other assault pistols, this one does not require a trigger pull for action in the field.
Two important things set the Spectrum apart from other .380 ACP designs. The first is the most obvious: the color combination.
Taurus intended the Spectrum to fulfill the aesthetic desires of a wide range of citizens. As such, the weapon was initially available in a variety of colors. After its initial launch, the company offered a large number of color combination options. Announced color combination options are listed below.

However, Spectra sales - at least in non-standard color options - seem to have fallen short of expectations. Within a short period of time, Taurus returned the product to black only with a choice of black or frosted glass.
A second important design difference is the increased use of soft polymer in key areas of the gun's frame and breech. These serve to improve the shooter's grip when shooting and handling the weapon. They are also said to be helpful in mitigating the effects of relapse.
News of the Taurus Spectrum leaked in the weeks leading up to SHOT 2017. The information I received intrigued me and I was really interested to see what Taurus had come up with.
During the week, I met several representatives of Býk at the exhibition. Each of them separately told me that the company was planning something big.

Employees I spoke with admitted that the company has let down some of its customers in the past with quality control issues. However, they all emphasized that things had changed; A new culture was born in the company: one that focuses on customers and promotes quality craftsmanship.
One of the people I spoke to at Specter was Dustin Srouffe, Taurus' chief engineer. Srouffe was generous with his time and honest in his arguments.
Srouffe said the Spectrum is a completely new weapon. To begin with, the Spectrum was designed by a team of American engineers. According to him, the members of the design team have experience with large projects for other arms companies. In addition, all team members were shooting enthusiasts.
Srouffe pointed out that the team was given a lot of freedom when they started working on Spectra. Team members were allowed to develop the pistol they wanted to shoot, rather than a gun designed to meet specific regulations or marketing.

In addition to the great team of engineers working at Spectrum, the company has brought in several outside partners to make sure they make the best guns possible. For example, industrial design has contributed to the development of what Taurus considers to be the best ergonomics.
Taurus representatives emphasize that the Spectrum is built with ergonomics as the main goal. From the grip style to the slide control, the gun is designed to be comfortable in the hand with good trigger reach and good control.
Looking at the gun, I saw a gun with more natural curves instead of flat surfaces. Srouffe told me that this suggestion was deliberate. The human hand is not smooth and has no hard edges. So a weapon with large flat surfaces and sharp edges may not be comfortable.
From the profile of the weapon, it is clear that the front and back have gentle curves. When you turn the gun 90°, you can see that the sides of the grip also have subtle curves: the palm is thicker and thinner than where the trigger reaches to pull the trigger.

Also, the slide is rounded to eliminate sharp edges. The only level surface on the slide is at the top where the views are.
My machine gun wasn't perfect. Not bad for a cheap gun, but you can see that the bolt rotation is not very smooth. See the image above for an example.
Inserting excessive construction – Of course, one of the things that some people have noticed is the use of a rubber insert for the frame and chute. These liners are PolyOne's patented polymer. If you're not familiar with the company, PolyOne deals in a wide variety of polymers, composites, polymer additives and other products.
The insert isn't true plastic, but I'll refer to it as "rubberized" to try to convey how it feels in the hand. The material is softer than the polymer structure, but not so soft that it rests on the hand.

The scratched material also provides more friction to grip the gun without a sticky feel. Honestly, the stickers have a great feel to them.
There are four places where the inserts are applied: the back, the front strap that wraps around the sides of the grip, the left side of the slide, and the right side of the slide.
For my pistol, the concealed items were perfect for the frame. However, it doesn't look as seamless as the picture. The parts attached to the slide look like they might come off. However, during the test, they remained on the slide without any problems. Click on the images above to see what I'm describing.
Rainbow of Color – As I mentioned earlier in the article, Taurus originally offered many color options on the Spectra and that is where the gun got its name from.
Shot Show 2017: Taurus Spectrum Pistol
Three frame colors were available: black, white and gray. The slide is available in black and stainless steel. Surface liners were available in over 20 colors:
According to Taurus, the company should have offered several color combinations as optional "options" - like my gun with a black frame, black picture and black decals. Some color combinations are only produced by an individual distributor. So if you wanted a specific color, it might only be available at a company like Cabellas or special order through your local gun store.
Taurus representatives explained that there are also to be three "house colors" that will be unusual combinations offered by Taurus. These are:
First, when Taurus announced the gun, the press release stated that the bolt would be made from 17-4 steel. After production began, Taurus changed the specifications to include carbon steel as the slide material. From 2021, the Taurus will again be equipped with a stainless steel slide.

Second, the MSRP has dropped significantly since launch. Guns used to be cheap - now they're just plain cheap. I can only imagine the discounted price.
Taurus says the Spectrum offers superior safety compared to other assault pistols. A Taurus representative explained that the system does not have a striker extension along with the striker block. The trigger pull controls the entire trigger and trigger to prevent accidental release.
The absence of a leading edge is the reason why it is not necessary to squeeze the trigger before disassembly. Some people,
