USS Pampanito (SS-383/AGSS-383) was a US Navy submarine and was the third ship named after the Pompano Fish. She completed six war patrols from 1944 to 1945 and served as a US Navy Reserve Training Ship from 1960 to 1971. She is now a National Historic Landmark and is maintained by the San Francisco Marine National Park Association as a memorial and museum ship in Fisherman's Wharf. Pampanito's key was laid on March 15, 1943 by the Portsmouth Naval Base in Kittery, Maine. She was launched on July 12, 1943 under the auspices of Mrs. James Wolfder and commissioned on November 6, 1943.
