RMS's Training and Logistics Solutions (TLS) business is Lockheed Martin's center of excellence for training and logistics products and services in the US. TLS, based in Orlando, develops programs that teach service men and women the skills they need to accomplish their most challenging missions - flying the world's most advanced fighter jets, piloting aircraft and operating armored vehicles. TLS is the corporation's center for simulation, X-reality, live-virtual-creation capabilities, advanced training equipment and full-service training programs. TLS also provides sustainment services such as supply chain and logistics IT solutions, spare parts and repairs, as well as automated inspection and support facilities. TLS is an affiliate of RMS Business Area, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. Lockheed Martin has been successful in partnering with educational institutions in the Orlando area for decades. As competition for defense contracts in the U.S. increases, the company recently completed its new $50 million, 255,000-square-foot research and development facility in Orlando. Lockheed Martin officially broke ground on the six-story building on February 14, 2018, and completed the building in just over a year in February. 13, 2019.
Employees at Lockheed Martin's Missile and Fire Control (MFC) site lead the aerospace and defense industry in technologies related to electro-optics, millimeter wave radar, image and signal processing, advanced materials, electronic packaging and large system integration. Lockheed Martin Announces Orlando Expansion, Hiring Plans
Lockheed Martin draws talent from Orlando's large defense training and simulation cluster as well as the University of Central Florida (UCF), the nation's leading supplier of aerospace and defense graduates. UCF graduates more than a thousand students each year in engineering, engineering technology and aerospace, and works closely with employers to ensure a consistent talent pool needed for major government contracts.
Lockheed Martin also invests heavily in Orlando schools and universities from K-12 to higher education. In the past year, the company has provided grants and donations for high-tech simulation software that promotes STEM education, a second advanced manufacturing training program at Valencia College and a new cyber innovation lab at UCF.
Between UCF and Valencia College, the company employs more than 2,600 alumni at the Orlando facility, and about 650 UCF students work or intern with the company each year.
