taurus 380 review

Taurus 380 Review - This article/review is about the relatively new Taurus .380 ACP pistol, the Spectrum. But before we discuss the spectrum, a word about Taurus might be in order. (I really like my Spectrum for hunting - it's a very reliable gun). The following is for non-Taurus gun fans...I feel like I should address this before I review the Spectrum since one is directly related to the other.

Taurus has introduced guns over the years that, for better or for worse, have caught the attention of the shooting public. Honestly, if you mention Taurus guns to some shooters, you'll get a similar comment: “Oh, Taurus, um… those are ugly guns!” Similar statements will be read. An important thing to note about these comments is that the speaker may or may not have actually held and fired the Taurus weapon. They are experts on these weapons, based on what they have heard or read, usually from those who have no direct experience with them.

Taurus 380 Review

Am I saying that Taurus always hits the nail on the head with their products? Of course not - I experienced first hand what their less than stellar customer service was years ago when I had to send guns back for repairs. The point I'm trying to make is that the Bulls are under new management and are working hard to eliminate these negative reactions. A few years ago, Taurus quality control wasn't that great. Guns that still need work to be ready for sale will be shipped. Well, probably not anymore. Let's take a quick history of the company and then get into Spectra.

Review: Taurus Gx4 Micro Compact 9mm After 500 Rounds :: Guns.com

Torres was founded in 1939 as a tool and die factory. Located in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Today, it not only produces firearms, but also has special divisions that produce other products: metalwork, bulletproof vests, plastics and helmets. The company is also big in civil construction. In 1941, the company produced its first weapon – the .38 Special. The model number of this first weapon was 38101SO. here it is:

In 1968 Torres began exporting firearms to the US through various importers. Now we will answer some questions that have been asked about some Taurus revolvers over the years - why do they look like a Smith and Wesson? Can't S&W sue them? The answer to these questions has to do with the ownership of the parent company. In 1970, Bangor Punta Forjas (Forge), the parent company of Smith and Wesson, purchased 54% of Torres. This allowed for the sharing of designs, machines, concepts and other aspects of firearms production. This arrangement continued until 1977, when the current owners purchased Taurus and severed the S&W relationship. That's why Taurus revolvers look like Smith and Wessons. It is important to note that the flow of ideas was not one-way. Torres helped Smith and Wesson with their engineering practices, designs and more.

As an example, here is an example of a currently manufactured Taurus revolver, the Model 44 in .44 Magnum caliber...

So we see that the Taurus Model 44 S&W 629 looks an awful lot like it. I mention this only to remind you that Taras was once associated with one of the world's largest manufacturers of quality revolvers. They undoubtedly benefited from this relationship, as did Smith and Wesson.

Kel Tec P3at And Taurus Ultra Lite 380 Review

In 1980, after Beretta completed contracts to manufacture firearms for the Brazilian military, Torres purchased the Beretta factory in São Paulo, along with tooling, manufacturing licenses and designs. They even hired workers to make weapons.

OK. We see Taurus making guns similar to those from other manufacturers. Some say they improve the design... I read good comments about how Taurus moved the safety from the slide to the frame on the PT92 above, one example. Whether you agree or not, the fact is that Taurus is one of the largest handgun manufacturers in the world today.

In 1984, Taurus created a subsidiary company: Taurus USA. Its purpose was to target the US market and facilitate the importation of firearms into the US (which has grown to the point where many Taurus firearms, including the Spectra, are now manufactured in the US). Rossi Firearms acquired Taurus in 1997, allowing Taurus to seriously expand into the long gun market. I owned a Rossi lever model R92 in .45 Colt - it was a very good gun and for the price it counted two deer. Another point of interest is that according to the Rossi website, Taurus has discontinued Rossi handguns. Rossi now only makes long guns. One of the most accurate .357 revolvers I have ever owned is the Rossi 6 inch. It's like no one is into it. One of our sons liked mine so much he bought one of his own. Unfortunately, they are no longer produced.

Taurus 380 Review

Taurus guns are cheaper to buy than some other brands. One possible reason is that labor costs in Brazil don't eat into the bottom line like they do with some firearms manufacturers in other parts of the world. For this reason, costs are stagnant. Another reason is that Taurus makes all the parts that go into their guns. Not being at the mercy of suppliers has its advantages in cost savings.

All Taurus Pistols

Taurus has long been known as a manufacturer of small concealable pistols. Their move into the .380 market was no doubt driven by the fact that the .380 had become one of the most popular self-defense cartridges. Advanced projectile design and ballistics have pushed the little .380 to the forefront of concealed carry calibers. As recently as 10 years ago, effective self-defense weapons were not available for the .380, but that has changed. (Here is my article on .380 ammo). Some experts consider the best .380 ammo to be as effective as the venerable .38 Special. Regardless of how you feel on the subject, the fact remains that the growth of the .380 pistol and ammunition market has skyrocketed in recent years. Torres had several players in this game.

The TCP(380) and Curve were the two Taurus .380 pistols that pioneered the Spectrum, neither of which are now shown on the Taurus website – the Spectrum is the only .380 in current production.

The TCP was a small pocket gun that held 6+1 rounds and weighed just over 10 ounces.

Torres called it a double-action-only (DAO) pistol, but the breech needed to be manipulated to fire again. The sights were basic (like almost all Pocket 380 sights), but it was a popular gun. It was about the same size as a Kel Tech P3AT or Ruger LCP. The gun was popular, it made Taurus come up with something else and about five years ago…

The Curve was Taurus' attempt to create a portable gun with everything built in or included.

These weapons came before the Spectrum. The Spectrum was supposed to be released in January 2017, but delay after delay kept it from hitting dealer shelves for nearly a year. If all the hype is true, I remember reading about it and thinking the gun should be a decent gun. It was the first "designer" .380 I've seen in these colors, but for the longest time (until recently) you could only buy black on black and gray on black. Black models - a little more in colors. Another major difference between the Spectrum and other pistols is that there are no serrations on the slide – the grip panels and slide grip area are covered in a soft rubber material that allows for a better grip when you cock the slide. Comes in different colors. So, how big is this little gun?

(The white letters are my work, of course - I'm still working on them. I like the slight variation on the weapon frames)

2.8 inch barrel. Unlike the Taurus Curve when it first came out, the barrel actually says â380 Autoâ. The first curves did not have caliber markings on both sides and this was soon rectified.

I added a rear sight with two white "dots". The lightning will melt them a bit. There is at least one rear view,
